The Opera Gallery plays host to the UK premier of new works by Mr Brainwash, the moniker of Los Angeles based film-maker and pop artist Thierry Guetta.
Rumoured to be created by Banksy, Mr Brainwash remains a mystery – his name is a pseudonym for Thierry Guetta as well as the subject of Banksy’s documentary, ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2010.
Using Guetta’s street art footage, Banksy eventually turned the camera on the only man who ever filmed him.
Their collaboration resulted in a remarkable documentary that is part personal journey and part expose of the art world with its mind-altering mix of hot air and hype. Whether you love him or hate him, Mr Brainwash is one of the most prolific artists on the scene.
Inspired by his subjects, he started hitting the streets, from LA to Paris, with spray painted stencils and posters of his pop art inspired images, quickly gaining a reputation on the international street art scene.
Attracting art and celebrity fans alike, Mr Brainwash was approached by Madonna, to design the cover of her greatest hits album, ‘Celebration’. This year, he was commissioned by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to direct the campaign for the launch of their latest album.
His exhibition at Opera Gallery, New Bond Street, runs from the 6th – 31st October and is well worth checking out.
