Now the summer is over and all we have to look forward to is month after month of cold weather. This shouldn’t be a time to despair however, it gives you a great opportunity to dust off your knitwear and exhibit your winter style. Here are five knitwear styles that you need to make sure you have in your wardrobe if you’re looking to cut a dash this winter.

Cardigan

First on this list of must-have men’s knitwear is the ever-reliable cardigan. In recent years, fashion designers have taken the humble piece of knitwear and turned it into a style staple. Cardigans come in a wide variety of different styles, from thick, chunky-knit designs to lightweight, merino wool numbers. The amount of choice available means it can be hard to pick the right one, but in truth it’s not that difficult. Go for a cardigan that suits your personal sense of style and try to stick to reasonably understated colour and you’re sure to make a great choice.

Cable-Knit

The cable-knit jumper is another piece of men’s knitwear that has made a resurgence over the last few winters. Versatile and warm, it’s worth investing in a good cable-knit this year. You’ll be able to find a cable-knit to suit any budget, but try not to go for the cheapest option unless entirely necessary; you’ll be better off trying to find something made from wool as it’ll be much warmer. Navy blues, dark greys and burgundy reds are good choices if you don’t know what colour cable-knit you want to buy.

Crew Neck

Nice and simple, a nice crew neck jumper is an essential for your winter wardrobe. A crew neck is a good alternative to a hoody, which immediately makes you look that little bit smarter. They can adjust to any look; wear them over a t-shirt, an oxford shirt or simply on their own. Try to look for a more lightweight design made from merino wool or cotton, as thicker crew neck jumpers are susceptible to showing their wear and tear. Navy blue or grey would be a great choice when looking at colours for your crew neck, as you’ll find you can wear them with almost anything.

Alpine Jumper

The alpine jumper has emerged as a popular choice in winter knitwear over the past few years. Alpine jumpers are defined by the bold, geometric patterns knitted into them and while you might not think this will suit your tastes, you should certainly look into buying an alpine jumper; you might be surprised by how good it looks once you’ve tried it on. Due to the already striking designs knitted into alpine jumpers, you should be careful not to go over the top colour-wise. Neutral and understated colours are probably best.

Knitted Hoody

Classic knitwear with a modern twist, a good knitted hoody is a fantastic style statement. Although lightweight variants will be available, try looking for a top-quality, thick-knit hoody, it’ll keep you warm and on trend this winter. Reds, blues and greys will be great colour choices and will help you stand out from the crowd as the weather gets colder.
